“The key to a good therapist are the questions he asked. Allen asked questions that brought my feelings in the open and I would not normally talk about. Exceptional attention to getting to know his patient, on time for his appointment and out session was handled in a very comforting manner.”

Getting to know Allen Prenner

As a seasoned clinician with a Master’s in Social Work from Yeshiva University and a Certificate in Clinical Counseling from the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, I draw from multiple psychotherapeutic methods, grounded in a psychodynamic theoretical background. Having practiced in New York City my entire career, I have experience working with a wide range of populations and ethnicities. I have particular interest and expertise in Men’s Issues. After over 30 years as a therapist and clinical supervisor in hospitals, clinics, and private practice, it is clearer to me than ever that successful therapy is all about the relationship. Going into therapy is a courageous decision, often fraught with anxiety about what to expect. I do not expect my clients to share difficult thoughts and feelings until and unless they feel safe, understood, and not judged, allowing for the essential therapeutic element: trust. My clients know that I will never betray their trust in our alliance. It has always been my professional mantra, and it always will be. This provider only accepts in-network patients. Allen's method helps me identify past behaviors that are affecting my mental health today. Through his therapy, I'm able to see my past from a forgiving and truthful perspective and am working on changing that false childhood narrative through my weekly sessions. His method with me includes active listening, teaching/knowledge transfer, and thought-provoking questioning. Since I've been seeing Allen, I've noticed a significant difference in my mental clarity and overall mood improvement.
