Getting to know Alvin Tan
Hi, I am a licensed clinical social worker in San Diego, California, with a Master's in Social Work from San Diego State University. My primary experience is helping clients regain and increase control over their mental health by developing greater insight and understanding of symptoms, identifying and utilizing coping skills, building positive support systems, and enhancing problem-solving and navigation of challenges.
I am currently accepting referrals for adult clients aged 24-25 and older but am open to working with younger adults (18 or older) if we are a good match. I am not accepting clients under 18 at this time.
I have worked with adults in various settings, including those experiencing active crises in acute locked psychiatric care, clients attending outpatient clinics for mental health services and counseling/groups, individuals in substance use disorder treatment both individually and in groups, and adults with developmental disabilities in group home settings. Professionally, I have served as direct care staff, held management and supervisor roles, and mentored undergraduate and graduate students.

What should a new client know about working with you?
My hope is to get my clients back on their feet, to expound and sift through their sometimes overwhelming thoughts, and regain clarity and vision via getting back in touch with their personal values and goals. Sometimes this can look like a more structured session, while other times this can look like just having a conversation to get some ideas/thoughts out. Either way, I'm here to support you in navigating what helps the most to you, each time.

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
