Amy Sifford, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Amy! I am licensed to provide clinical mental health counseling in North Carolina. I am also a licensed clinical supervisor and I have a Ph.D in counselor education and supervision. I am an adjunct instructor of psychology at my local community college. I have over twenty years of professional experience in human services and my focus is providing trauma-informed, client-centered, evidence-based clinical services to adults. My approach My approach to therapy is rooted in existential philosophy and a belief in the resiliency of the human spirit. I utilize a variety of strategies and techniques from classical Client-Centered practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family System Theory, Choice Theory, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am certified to provide EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and advanced training in trauma-focused CBT, and Seeking Safety. My focus I primarily work with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, sociocultural stress, dysthymia, and phase-of-life issues. My communication style I like to create a warm and welcoming space for my clients. I am genuinely interested in hearing about your experiences and getting to know you on as deep a level as you are comfortable. I am friendly, and a realist, I use humor and colloquial phrases harkening back to my working-class roots and Southern Appalachian heritage. In short, I am plain-spoken and it is my hope our time together will benefit you in some way. My journey to mental healthcare I have a natural curiosity about our lot as human beings and have long been drawn to the idea that we depend on one another, for better or worse, to survive and more importantly, to thrive. None of us are immune to sadness, sorrow, loss, tragedy, or trauma and sometimes the load is too heavy and complex to carry alone. I began my journey as a volunteer at a group home for teenagers.
