Amy Troy, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Amy! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I graduated with a Bachelor in Social Work in 2010 and earned my Master?s in Social Work from the University of New England in 2015. I became fully licensed in 2018 and have been practicing ever since. Overall, I have been in the Social Work field for over 25 years and have been fortunate to work with an array of populations. My go-to evidence-based practices (EBP) are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Since it is rare that one person fits into one box, I have found these two modalities effective for learning new coping skills and adding helpful strategies to one?s toolkit. My approach My approach to therapy may be considered more laid back than others. I am strength-based and provide encouragement and acknowledgment when I see fit. I utilize specific modalities, such as mindfulness, emotion regulation, and cognitive behavioral therapy, but feel active listening, mirroring, and meeting the client where they are is most important. I am also solution-focused and like to concentrate on what someone is going through at the current moment. I believe in clarification, achievable goal-setting, and providing a trusting, safe space for one to share. My focus I am experienced in working with parenting issues and child behavior, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, veterans, substance abuse, domestic violence, adults, young adults, and stress-related disorders. My communication style The most important thing to me when working with someone is to ensure they have a safe place to share. I also believe in building good rapport. Without either of those, the therapeutic relationship cannot work. I know it can take time to build trust, and I feel the best way to do that is through consistency, mutual respect, and boundary setting. My journey to mental healthcare I always knew I wanted to be a therapist and help people, but I was a late bloomer.
