Ann Holabird, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Ann! My name is Ann Holabird, and I’ve been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) for 18 years. I earned my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. Although my practice is based in Pasadena, California, I work with clients across the state via telehealth. My approach As a family systems therapist, I believe our family of origin shapes our thoughts, beliefs, values, and coping mechanisms. Defined as behaviors, cognitions, and perceptions we engage when facing intense stressors, coping skills aren’t exclusively developed from trauma. They can be shaped by being the oldest, youngest, middle, first-generation, or only child. Difficulties arise when we leave the original family system and enter new relationships. Our primary coping skills and familiar family roles may no longer serve us well. Together, we explore these coping ways and family roles to find new, growth-oriented solutions to present stressors. My focus Throughout my years as a therapist, I’ve worked with many populations and mental health conditions. In telehealth, I’ve found teens through older adults adapt best to the format. Certain issues respond well to video therapy, such as mood disorders (anxiety, grief, depression), life transitions, couples counseling, and self-esteem issues. My communication style I strive to create a value-neutral environment in sessions. This is vital because I cannot help a client who doesn’t feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues often at the root of many problems. We cannot improve behaviors not brought into the session.
