“I also wanted to choose "Open-minded" but it would only let me choose 2. She is very gentle with me. She doesn't push back on me, like my relatives do, but she also tries to help me find solutions. I love talking to her.”

Getting to know Anne Rettenberg

Psychotherapy can help you overcome many personal challenges if you're willing to be honest and have an idea of how you'd like your life to be different. I earned my Master's in Social Work from New York University and have been a therapist for many years, working with diverse individuals in New York and California. I use a variety of modalities, including classic insight-oriented therapy, supportive therapy, CBT techniques, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also work with couples and families.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your first session with me will be an assessment. I'll be asking you about your goals for therapy, your life history, your mood and any symptoms. I will also ask a few questions about your health and lifestyle. If psychotherapy isn't the right avenue for you, I will recommend an alternative. In ongoing individual sessions, you will be expected to talk about the problems and issues that are bothering you and any insights you've already developed. We will explore the roots of your problems together. I will offer support and insights. I may offer suggestions, or ask that you complete a task such as keeping a journal. If we are doing EMDR, we will follow the standard protocols. We will evaluate your progress regularly.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
