By focusing on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, clients can empower themselves to make the changes they seek in their lives. My approach My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the most common theoretical approach in the country. My focus Do you feel like you’re running a marathon but don’t know when or how to stop? Feeling a lot of anxiety? Or maybe some days you wake up with “the Mondays” — and it may not even be Monday. Let’s help you feel cared for, accomplished, and recognized. If you’re like many of us, you probably spend a lot of your days trying to get along with others — whether it’s your partner, toxic boss, or someone you live with. You deserve more peace. My communication style I’m the coach in your corner. I’ll cheer you on, back you up, and call you out if there’s a way we can do it better. I love to use analogies, which can be quirky or odd at times (hopefully, they’re helpful and even funny!). My journey to mental healthcare I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix. I’ve always been complimented on my ability to listen and understand others in a way that feels personable, safe, and comfortable. While education in therapy can take you only so far, I believe my natural skillset of hearing and honoring others has truly excelled me as a therapist. I brought my 12-year-old son in for therapy, and at the very first session, the therapist told him that he would be in charge of deciding whether he wanted to continue treatment. While I understand the importance of giving children a voice, introducing this idea immediately did not allow time for rapport-building or for my son to fully understand the value of therapy. As a result, my son quickly declined to continue, without having the opportunity to experience the process or develop trust with the therapist. I felt this approach was premature and may not be developmentally appropriate for all children, especially at the initial stage of care. I would have preferred a more balanced approach that supports both the child’s autonomy and the parent’s role in guiding treatment decisions.
