Bernard (Winter) Cushing, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, I'm Bernard, a licensed therapist with experience working with adolescents (ages 12-17), young adults (18-26), and adults (27-32) seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I do not currently take clients under 12 or over 32 years old for virtual therapy. I like to walk with my clients through their therapeutic journeys, no matter the difficulty. I utilize humor when appropriate to strengthen therapeutic bonds, understand clients as individuals, and work with them to find their own solutions for their specific challenges. I specialize in supporting teens, young adults, and adults through daily life challenges such as interpersonal relationships, family conflicts, life transitions, intimate partner issues, academic, and career-related stress. I use a humanistic approach to explore what works best for each client. Some of the basic orientations I utilize include Mindfulness, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy techniques. My therapy style assists clients in their journey by helping them understand their thoughts, feelings, reactions, and responses, which aids in healing and growth. This process can lead to a life that feels more grounded, joyful, and meaningful. I have experience working as an intensive outpatient therapist providing individual therapy, group therapy, and case management. I have worked with children, teens, adults, and their families as an Elementary, Middle, and High School special education/general education therapist, as well as an adult inpatient therapist. I have supported individuals from various walks of life, spiritual beliefs, gender orientations, and a variety of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and a Bachelor's degree from San Francisco State University.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
