Brittany Williams, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Brittany! My name is Brittany Williams. I am an LPC in Virginia, and I mostly use cognitive-behavioral therapy. I enjoy working with a wide range of people of all ages and conditions—from kids to teenagers to adults to older adults—who are experiencing anything from depression to anxiety to life changes such as grief and loss or anything in between! I look forward to working with you! My approach I usually use cognitive-behavioral therapy to work through thought processes and create behavioral change. I teach a lot of coping skills that we practice in-session, and clients can then use them outside in real life to create actual change. My focus I have worked with clients of all ages but especially enjoy working with kids and teenagers. I feel like they have a lot going on in life that is very difficult to navigate and can have a lot of depression and anxiety on top of everything else. My communication style I tend to ask a lot of open-ended questions. That gives the client an opportunity to go where they feel they need to during a session, and I follow them there. My journey to therapy I took an intro to Psychology class in community college and was hooked. I decided at that point to major in psychology in college. I earned my Master’s in Counselor Education from Longwood University and went on to complete my counseling residency. I had a lot of grief growing up, and when I was a teenager, everyone around me was dying. I wanted to be able to help people through that sort of thing when I got older, so here I am! My goals for you We set goals during the first session and look back over them during subsequent sessions to see progress and make sure we’re on the right track. My first session with you During a first session, I typically ask a lot of questions to get background information, learn who the client is as a person, and understand their routine and symptoms.
