Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Bruce! Q: How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb? A: Only one, but the lightbulb has to really want to change. Something brought you here. Something inside you is saying that you want some professional help. I take a curious, open-ended approach to help you figure out what kind of help that is. Let's do an exploratory call! My focus I enjoy working with adults (18-75+) who are struggling with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, internalized homophobia, or major life transitions. My approach I like to say that therapists are "sherpas not shamans." That means that I know some faster paths up the mountains you face. Many of the skills and modalities are simple to understand but not always easy to implement. I'll help you with that! My communication style Good therapy should feel like a dialog. The therapy relationship is very different than a friendship, talking to a relative, or coaching. It's important to build trust so that we can go deep. My journey to mental healthcare I spent over 30 years as an Information Technology professional. Later in life I became a life and career coach but I found that unfulfilling. My own therapist suggest this was because coaching isn't deep enough for me to really help people. So, I went back to school and am now a licensed therapist. It's never boring! My goals for you We'll work together to first define your goals and determine how we'll know when you've reached them. I use a combination of "evidenced-based" modalities (e.g. CBT/DBT) in combination with psychodynamic and attachment based approaches. Our first session In the first session we'll work on seeing if we're a fit to work together for a while. I'll ask you open ended questions so we can see what your treatment goals might be and how we might get there. By the end of the session we'll know if we're meant to work together.
