Cheryl Gilbert, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Cheryl! Hi! My name is Cheryl Gilbert, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT, License #119597) based in Vista, California. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University. My approach I see clients as on a journey of self-discovery to reach their own goals for health and healing. I join my clients on this journey and help facilitate this process, acting as a navigator while they direct the destination. I assist clients in discovering their strengths and support them through struggles such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, family, or relationship difficulties. My joy is to see clients find within themselves the answers to their questions and struggles, while empathetically supporting the process. My focus I am passionate about working with adolescents, adults, and seniors. I have extensive training and am an ongoing student of neurobiology related to PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships. My 30-year previous career as a special educator has given me insight into learning challenges and how they impact the whole family. My communication style My goal is to make therapy a safe, affirming, and supportive experience. The relationship we build is very important to me. Creating a felt sense of safety in our relationship is my primary goal. You will find a therapist who truly listens to what it is like to be you. I welcome open communication and value what clients share as they narrate their experiences. My journey to mental healthcare My original career was in education. After 20 years as a first-grade teacher, I moved into special education, seeing how important it was for all types of learning to find success daily. This led me to establish my own school for special learners on the campus of a traditional school with 250 students, which I ran for 10 years.
