Getting to know Connie Whelan

Hi there, I'm Connie! My name is Connie Whelan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I have been practicing for over 16 years, helping adults and seniors with a wide variety of challenges. I use strengths and solution-focused approach to help create a unique plan to help each person become their best self. My approach My counseling style is solution-focused, client-centered and strengths-based. I use CBT, Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing and Strength-based approach to help clients that are seeking to make changes in their lives. My focus I help young adults, adults, and seniors with a wide variety of issues and concerns. Most clients I work with initially present with issues such as depression, anxiety, worry, sleep disturbances, family and/or relationship issues, or financial worries. My communication style My communication during therapy is interactive, supportive, and collaborative. Through questioning, listening, and challenging old ways of thinking and/or doing things, we will start seeking new ways of approaching life's challenges. My journey to therapy I graduated with my Master's in Social Work in 2007. Since then, I have worked in many settings including sexual assault, homelessness, families, and forensic mental health. I have had significant training in mental health issues (depression, anxiety, bipolar, and schizophrenia), substance abuse, trauma, learning disabilities, ADHD, homelessness, and parenting issues. My experience has built skills with complicated life issues. My goals for you My therapeutic goal is to identify areas of concern and work on developing healthy coping skills. Together we discuss ways to improve the area of concern through weekly goals and/or assignments. As new skills emerge, we re-evaluate and set new goals. My first session with you The first session is for the client to share why they are seeking therapy. It is your time to share your story.
