Cory Renay Friendshuh, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in rural Colorado, holding a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University and a Bachelor’s from Carleton College. I provide telehealth for clients of all ages across the state and enjoy individual, couples, and family/friend therapy. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and depression and firmly believe the person is not the problem; the problem is the problem. My approach I put the person first and use a narrative approach, trusting and valuing the meaning my clients make from their experiences. Through a mix of somatic work, EMDR/trauma processing, play therapy, anger management, and skills training, I help clients trust and value themselves. My focus Many clients struggle with relationships with themselves and others, often rooted in trauma or chronic stress. This stress frequently shows up as anxiety, depression, body tension, numbness, shifts in sleep or appetite, anger, fear, suicidal ideation, or self-sabotaging behaviors like disordered eating, substance use, and self-harm. I help clients learn from these symptoms as teachers rather than fearing them, so we can understand underlying needs for healthier living and empowerment. My communication style Therapy is hard. Vulnerability is hard! I come to sessions full of gratitude and without expectations that a client has prepared “something to talk about.” Depending on where my client is, I’ll offer activities, reflection, silence, and challenge as needed. This is always an open conversation, and we celebrate joyful feelings as we make space for the awkward and difficult ones. My journey to mental healthcare The stories we tell about ourselves and our world make us. It is an honor to bear witness to those stories and help clients develop confidence, insight, and support to shift their narratives..
