“I'm able to have a laugh with Cynthia in each appointment, which I appreciate greatly. It makes it a lot easier to show up to therapy when I know it won't all be crying and sitting with hard feelings— there can be room for both. Cynthia brings warmth, thoughtfulness, and practical solutions to her practice that I haven't found in another therapist.”

Getting to know Cynthia Matsuura

Hi there, I’m Cynthia! Do you feel overwhelmed with life’s challenges and are looking to restore balance and moderation to promote a sustainable lifestyle? Has your self-esteem taken a hit due to the constant changes and expectations of society? Are you looking to improve or change the trajectory of your life? I assist children and adults who experience mental health concerns ranging from anxiety, depression, impulse control, inattentiveness, behavioral challenges, relationship difficulties, and struggles with establishing healthy boundaries. Collaboratively, we can regain control of your thoughts and actions by exploring the underlying concerns driving destructive behaviors and developing effective ways to improve overall functioning in all environments. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Social Work from California State University, Los Angeles, which equips me with the knowledge and skills to support you on your journey toward mental wellness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

An individual should expect to acquire various skills during the session to help adaptively problem solve through adversity and work towards restoring peace. I value providing a safe environment for an individual to feel vulnerable in order to maximize the most growth from therapy. An individual will acquire education to help understand the emotions and feelings they may be experiencing along with tools and techniques to promote emotional flexibility.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Super friendly and open
I'm able to have a laugh with Cynthia in each appointment, which I appreciate greatly. It makes it a lot easier to show up to therapy when I know it won't all be crying and sitting with hard feelings— there can be room for both. Cynthia brings warmth, thoughtfulness, and practical solutions to her practice that I haven't found in another therapist.
It is so easy to talk to Cynthia and I know she wants to make me feel hopeful and also sets expectations that things don't change immediately. Such a good combination of practical and empathy that I am grateful for.
I feel like Cynthia Matsuura truly understands where I’m coming from and she listens without judgement. I’ve felt comfortable telling her all about my life and received nothing but compassion and support in return. She gives me space to vent and actionable ideas for practical solutions that really help me. I cannot say enough good things about her, and I’m extremely grateful for my sessions with her.
I feel very good in our sessions and she makes it very easy to create a safe space and be comfortable in going through the process. She never judges and always listens and validate and she’s just overall such a sweet person.
Cynthia really pushes me to think about my actions and emotions in a way that allows me to improve myself. It may not always feel comfortable, but I know she does it so that I can grow and think more objectively about situations. I really appreciate all the work she puts into understanding who I am instead of solely my feelings and why I may be reacting to certain things. She's funny and genuine and I truly believed that she cares for any client that works with her. She's the best!
Grateful to have her in this time of my life.
I appreciate that Cynthia provides a lot of psychoeducation while also affirming strengths of the client. She is communicative both during and between sessions, and shows care, including by remembering and asking about topics discussed in prior sessions. I believe her to be well-versed in supporting people with anxiety based on her knowledge as a clinician as well as lived experience.
