Getting to know Cynthia Young

I like to take a comprehensive, collaborative approach to treatment and focus on building a professional and positive relationship rather than simply treating a diagnosis. To me, it is important to build a genuine relationship based on trust, openness, and honesty that emphasizes meeting the client where they’re at. I believe the client is an expert in their own life, and my role is to help them become a healthier, happier version of themselves. As a clinician with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University, I utilize an integrative approach including Person-Centered techniques, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Gestalt, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My clinical experience includes working with clients who have suffered from trauma and abuse—generational, sexual, physical, and emotional—as well as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Personality Disorders. I have worked with children in the foster care system as well as adults within a community mental health setting. My experience has taught me the importance of culture, gender, spirituality, and, more importantly, to focus on the person as a whole.

She made me feel even more stuck. Gave me an ultimatum of starting medication without giving me space to arrive to that option on my own.

I had selected another therapist, but she wasn't taking any new patients and ended up being very comfortable with Dr. Young. She is very easy to talk to and provides a lot of great feedback.
