Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Deborah! Debby Simmons, PhD. Hello, I am the clinical director of Primrose Healing and Wellness. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a doctorate in Health Psychology. I am an educator as well as a therapist, which is a strength I bring into my work with my clients. I have learned over the years that there is no one specific way to treat people. It is important to reach people where they are. I take a multi-dimensional and holistic approach to therapy based on sound clinical interventions. I believe in incorporating all aspects of a person's life-physical, psychological, psychosocial, and spiritual-into treatment when appropriate. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I treat a variety of conditions ranging from depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, and trauma issues to couples and family work. I have a passion for health and wellness and believe in the education of holistic wellness. Therapy has changed in the last couple of years and has moved to teletherapy. Teletherapy and other wellness services at Primrose have mostly transitioned to an online platform. During these difficult times, anxiety is the primary reason people need to talk with someone. When I work with people during difficult times, I begin by assessing everything going on in their lives and start to put together a treatment plan that includes psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, relaxation, leisure, breathing, yoga, and energy work. Yes, even energy work can be done online. Many people do not want to take medication for anxiety, so developing alternative ways to cope is critical. Having someone a client can talk to and get support from is so important during difficult times. Family and friends do not always provide the objectivity needed to problem solve. It is not all about work, though-in my spare time, I love to travel, ballroom dance, and practice Pilates.
