Getting to know Denise Harlan
My passion is working with clients of all ages from diverse populations who are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, and life transitions. My therapeutic style is patient, kind, flexible, and empathetic. I especially enjoy working with individuals experiencing or who have experienced crisis, parenting difficulties, suicidal thoughts, trauma, depression, anxiety, and signs of Attention Deficit Disorder. I work with adults, teens, and children.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work from San Francisco State University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker fully licensed in California, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. As I travel frequently, I currently accept only virtual clients, with all time slots scheduled in Pacific Standard Time. At this time, I do not provide couples counseling.

More information on payments and coverage
Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Harlan uses EDMR. I find this beneficial to get to the root of why am feeling the way I am. She won't stop until you both figure it out. I have addressed other concerns I have and guide me through them if she isn't associated nor have any knowledge in the subject; she tries to give the best care.
She's really caring, understanding, and empathetic of who you feel. I haven't experienced anyone like her in the healthcare field ever, she's a rare gem. I highly recommend her if you are looking for services in PTSD, anxiety, depression, and dissociation disorder.

Denise is extremely warm and open minded. She has helped me process relationship matters and past traumas extremely well. After only a couple of sessions with her, I've made huge progress and she is amazingly helpful with working toward my goals. She is extremely insightful and helps me process/understand the progress I've made in only a few sessions. Her guidance leads me to amazing insights about myself, my past, and my relationships that have shifted my thought process into a more positive state of being. I'm extremely grateful for her help and guidance during our sessions and the benefits I've seen in my personal life because of her help.

Super easy to book and appreciated the reminders leading up to my appointment. The Dr. was knowledgeable, judgement free and very personable. I look forward to our next meeting!

I would not go back. Ms Harlan made assumptions on the first meeting. She put a goal out there to be done and it was totally unattainable. My feeling is that she thought she knew what she was dealing with and really she had no idea.
Her bedside manner is rather a bit chilly. I did not feel as though I had a person that I could openly communicate with. She was a bit standoffish.
I went to her because I needed a counselor I could talk to honestly about issues, that didn't happen. So The first was the last appointment with her.
Maybe she will work for some people.

She is amazing. She is direct when I need her to be, she is open-minded and always bring different solutions on how to calm me down and center me, she is warm. She asks me challenging questions and makes me think. I couldn’t ask for a better therapist! After trying with 4 others, Dr. Harlan has been a gift to me.
