Diane Kato, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Diane! My name is Diane Kato. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 23 years in behavioral health. I earned my Bachelor's degree from California State University, Sacramento. I view therapy as a journey with blocks that hinder your path to self-healing. As a therapist, I use person-centered, mindfulness, bi-lateral stimulation (Adaptive Information Processing model (AIP)/EMDR), cognitive-behavioral, art, play, sand-tray, and other therapy styles to guide you toward healing and healthy coping skills. My approach I work with you to identify the best therapeutic approach. Often, I use 3 to 4 different approaches per session. With most clients, we develop relaxation skills, safe place visualization, and positive communication skills in the first phase. In the second phase, I help you automatically use healthy coping and relaxation skills when activated. We may use the AIP model to reprocess small and large traumas. I also work with parents and children to develop healthier relationships. Depending on the parent-child relationship and child’s age, I might use Incredible Parenting, Parent Child Interaction, Nurtured Heart, or Family Systems models. The final stage is closure, where we continue to instill healthy coping skills and develop a plan if symptoms reoccur. At the end, most clients feel lighter, less overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. My focus I work with adults and children who have experienced small and big traumas. Some clients are parents feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or confused about next parenting steps. I also enjoy working with Asian and Senior populations. My goals for you During the first session, I ask what you want to work on. Therapeutic goals can be developed in the first stage and adjusted based on your needs.
