Getting to know Edna Burgos

Hello, my name is Edna, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's in Social Work from the University of Iowa. My intention when working with clients is to provide a safe space where thoughts and behaviors can be explored freely. I work from a client-centered, strengths-based approach but remain open to a dynamic experience depending on each client's needs. I strongly believe in meeting clients where they are. I approach my work from a strengths-based perspective, believing that a person is the expert in their own life. I incorporate psychoeducation and draw tangible tools from CBT to support understanding and growth. My expertise is primarily with older adults and the many issues that come with aging, but I welcome the opportunity to engage with adults of all ages. My work has included depression, anxiety, trauma, life transition struggles, and other mood disorders. I strive to create a safe environment with clear and direct communication to ensure understanding. My goal is to always communicate with empathy and compassion, guided by a trauma-informed lens. I came to mental health because I wanted to challenge ideas about what keeps people stuck. I aim to ask the uncomfortable questions that encourage positive change. My educational journey was not traditional, and I believe that has made me an even better therapist. What drives me most is being present when people make the difficult decision to access mental health care-it is truly an honor to be part of someone's healing journey. When setting goals, I guide clients to be realistic and set attainable objectives. During our first session, we will discuss expectations for our time together. I look forward to hearing a sketch of your history and what brought you to therapy. We will get to know each other and determine if this is a good match.
