Edwin Harris, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My approach is client-centered. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a partnership that provides opportunities for meaning and clarity with both the client and therapist. My approach I believe the first order of business is getting to know one another and listening to my clients with neither prejudgments nor assumptions. I love to see what is exceptional about each person I work with and approach the work with both empathy and respect. My focus While diagnosis plays a part in the therapeutic work, seeing each client as a person first, with stories and experiences that have informed their worldview and their view of themselves. Honoring those stories and the client's capacity to find answers and understanding informs the work. My communication style I believe in creating a friendly and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. Humor, when appropriate, can help build rapport and help the client feel at ease. My goals for you I like to ask what the client could be feeling, thinking, and doing as a result of effective therapeutic work. I often assign simple behavioral goals to address each week. I will consult with psychiatric providers when possible to learn about their perspectives and experience with the client. My first session with you During our first session, I would want to cover informed consent and releases of information. I would want the patient to feel at ease and explain that our first session is an opportunity to get to know one another, learn about what brought them to therapy, and what our work together would look like.
