Getting to know Eileen Houtzer

My name is Eileen Holtzer, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in California. I have provided counseling services for individuals and couples and employee assistance case management services for 17 years. I earned my master's degree in Counseling and my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from Argosy University. In addition to private practice, I have worked in community college, hospital, and workplace settings, providing both long-term and short-term treatment for various mental health issues using a variety of therapeutic modalities. I believe that treatment plans are built collaboratively between the therapist and the client and adjust as circumstances change. I use theoretical models to help direct the treatment plan based on your needs. I am very pragmatic in my approach. You may be interested in self-exploration and desire to work on patterns of relating to others and reflect on the impact of early childhood experiences on current relationships and adult functioning. To meet these goals, I draw from therapeutic models such as psychodynamic psychotherapy and other relational and attachment-based approaches to help change and improve how we interact with others. If you are experiencing anxiety and depression or need support with stress management, I utilize therapeutic models and theories such as Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness, and Compassion-Focused approaches. These can help us understand your nervous system and find ways to calm and nurture yourself so that you might feel more at peace even when things around you are chaotic or uncertain. There is no right or wrong way to engage in the therapeutic process. We will go at your own pace and address the needs that are important to you. During our time together, we will work to understand problem situations and develop new strength-based strategies for managing them more effectively. I look forward to working with you!
