Getting to know Elisa (Spykstra) Isakson

As a therapist, I am passionate about making the journey with you, hoping to empower you to further understand your experiences and tend to your wounds. I believe that when a safe space is created within a relational context to name, understand, and feel our experiences, we can begin working towards healing and growth. In order to begin the work toward more wholehearted living, we must first take the time to understand our story-how we have learned to relate to people through our early experiences, the coping strategies we picked up, and the vows we began to make. As we bravely begin to understand our unique journey, we can engage and live differently. We can begin to heal. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health from Denver Seminary, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support you compassionately on this path.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I love helping individuals find their voice and reclaim their lives. In a field that is constantly evolving and changing I am passionate about being a continual learner. I conduct much of therapy from narrative, person-centered, and attachment-based approaches. I also engage in trauma work and am EMDR trained. As a therapist I am highly relational and empathetic and above all my goal is to make the counseling space safe.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once you book your session with me, you can expect me to email you to schedule a phone call for a consultation. During this call, we will chat for 15 minutes and I will ask you some basic background information regarding your goals for therapy and important practice policies. During this time, we will make sure that I am a good fit for you as a therapist. Afterwards, I will confirm our booking and send you intake paperwork to complete before our session.

I look forward to my therapist appointments every time. Having someone who can not only listen, but understand me, is huge. On top of that, the things she has to say in response are understanding, knowledgeable, and in a linear path. It allows for a fluid flow of conversation, full of eye opening thought.

Elisa is a wonderful counselor- a true partner in your journey, championing you through life's different turns. She has great wisdom and is incredibly easy to relate to. She is kind, patient, and is careful to treat each issue with patience and respect. She is just great! Her office is also super comfy and relaxing which makes the whole process of therapy an easier one :)
Ive been with Elisa for about a year now and i've never met someone more understanding or welcoming. She listens without judgement and continues to help me in any way that I need it. I absolutely love Elisa and am so grateful that I found her.
I started seeing Elisa this year and she has been amazing. What I enjoy most about our visits is how well she listens and adapts to my needs. She frequently asks how I am feeling about our sessions and if she could be doing more. She has given me writing prompts because she knows I enjoy writing. I made a goal to read more this year and she provided me with books that have expanded on what I have been learning in our sessions. She challenges me. She encourages me. She has been so valuable in my journey of learning to love myself. Trust me, Elisa is the right therapist for you.
