What should a new client know about working with you?

I prioritize clear, open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Through active listening and thoughtful reflection, I strive to be an empathetic partner in your healing journey. When navigating difficult emotions or experiences, you can expect me to be calm, patient, and fully present. People often ask why I decided to become a mental health therapist, and many are also curious about my entering the field as an older adult. I began volunteering at a community center; I enjoyed the work I was doing, but I wanted to do more for the individuals and families who came to the center for assistance. I decided the best way to do that was to go to school and learn how to do more. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in my mid-50s and decided to continue to graduate school. I earned my Master of Social Work at the very young age of 58. It has been a great adventure, and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to accompany people on their healing journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Setting goals in therapy is a collaborative and empowering process. Goal setting helps us clarify what you want to get out of our work together and provides a roadmap to guide your progress. We begin by exploring what brings you to therapy—what’s been challenging, what you hope will change, and what matters most to you. I will work with you to clarify your intentions; it is important to remember that you don’t need to have perfect goals from the start. Even broad hopes like “I want to feel less anxious” or “I want to understand myself better” can be shaped into meaningful, actionable goals. The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your hopes, and any concerns or questions you may have. This session sets the foundation for our work together. My goal is to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, and at ease. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with, and we will move at a pace that feels right for you.
