Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Heather! Hello. My name is Heather Nisenbaum. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing care to clients struggling with life transitions, interpersonal challenges, and periods of depression, anxiety, and addiction. My approach I utilize a psychodynamic approach to therapy within a primarily supportive environment. During therapy, we may draw upon various skills-based modalities to facilitate needed changes. These modalities could include Cognitive Behavioral skills, Acceptance and Commitment approaches, Positive Psychology, or others that may be the key to unlocking your best self. My focus I work with clients in late adolescence through adulthood. They commonly experience new or longstanding periods of depression and anxiety, often worsened by interpersonal or family issues. Anxiety, depression, substance misuse and recovery, trauma, and major life transitions are several areas of my clinical focus. My communication style Because a relationship is the foundation of the therapeutic process, I seek to build one that provides warmth, flexibility, collaboration, and trust. It is in such a setting that goals can most easily be met and sustained. Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful and fulfilled life. My journey to therapy After obtaining my master's degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California, I have had extensive experience providing assessment and treatment for hospitalized patients with medical and psychiatric issues. This typically involved a pragmatic, problem-oriented approach to those in crisis or experiencing major life events. I also hold a bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge, and a Certificate in Drug, Alcohol Studies and Counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles Extension. This clinical experience is tempered by my own therapeutic journey, where I learned that an ongoing relationship with a skilled therapist is central to personal growth.
