Getting to know Helan Nguyen

Hi there, I'm Helan! My name is Helan Nguyen, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies. My approach is to provide a safe holding space and work as a team with my clients to explore both the conscious and unconscious. I believe that healing comes from within, through self-determination and resilience. I want to empower my clients to understand their weaknesses and strengths. My approach I use integrative therapy tailored to each client's needs. Some of the theoretical approaches I incorporate include CBT, DBT, humanistic, mindfulness-based, and ACT. My focus I work with adults in individual and couple therapy. I have supported clients struggling with anxiety, depression, phases of life issues, relationships, intergenerational trauma, and other psychosocial stressors. My communication style I believe in collaborative teamwork, trusting that the client is the expert of their story. I work with my clients to guide treatment that works best for them. My journey to mental healthcare As a Vietnamese American female raised in a traditional family with rich cultures and values, I understand the biases and barriers surrounding mental health. I chose to become a marriage and family therapist because I hope to help people of cultural diversity better understand mental health and work through generational trauma.
