Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Hiza! I am a Navy Veteran, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist with over 23 years' experience. I also hold a PhD in Forensic Psychology from Walden University. My main therapeutic approach is Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based treatment that helps examine a client's ambivalence, increase their commitment to change, and ensure their autonomy of self-change. To enhance the effectiveness of this treatment, I use active listening as one of my primary techniques. My approach Counseling is a joint effort that cannot be successful without your hard work, energy, and courage. I practice client-centered, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and motivational interviewing counseling approaches. A typical treatment plan that we collaborate on together may involve culturally responsive goals, and I will apply corresponding clinical interventions as skills you learn to help you reach your treatment goals. My focus I typically work with clients with a broad range of concerns, including those who have suffered domestic and/or sexual abuse, other traumatic events, and mood and anxiety disorders. I've provided both individual and group counseling to chemically dependent persons, as well as families, couples, active-duty military, and Veteran populations. My top specialization treatment areas are anxiety, depression, marital/couples' discord, substance use disorders, and trauma-some of the main issues I can help you with. My communication style My counseling style is direct, affirming, empathic, and interactive. I believe the counseling experience is a deep personal interaction in which the most crucial aspects of this relationship are trust, respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't subscribe to stigmatizing labels. I strive to make the counseling environment an inviting and safe space where my clients can feel comfortable being vulnerable.
