I have a science background and stay abreast of treatment outcome research so I can provide data-backed interventions throughout your treatment with me. That being said, the most important factor in making therapy helpful is ensuring you feel comfortable and safe in our therapeutic relationship. My approach I am trained and certified in a treatment model called EMDR. While I have other treatment approaches in my repertoire (CBT, Mindfulness-based, and many others), I have generally found that in my practice, a safe and caring therapeutic relationship in combination with EMDR has been the most effective in helping people reach their treatment goals. This kind of treatment is not for everyone, so we would discuss it at length to see if it could be right for you. It is an 8-phased model and it is grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing theory, which posits that human beings store information from past experiences in such a way that it influences present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, often unconsciously. Sometimes the past experiences were insufficiently processed and maladaptively stored in the mind, causing problems in the present and resulting in things like poor self-image, anxiety, and emotional reactions that are out of proportion with the current conditions. EMDR treatment helps the brain reprocess information in such a way as to improve psychological well-being. Things I often hear are "for some reason, I just don't feel.
