James Goodwin, LMFT

Psychotherapist
NC
I was born in the south, where everybody has three names. You can call me Gregg. I have been licensed as a Marriage and Family therapist since 2001 and was trained in the "Family Systems" therapeutic approach. I went back to graduate school at age 49 and have an MA in Clinical Psychology. I am a certified Domestic Violence Counselor and have a background in running an Intensive Outpatient Program for drug and alcohol abuse and mental health groups. My approach First, I say hello. I ask for their names. I tell them I am a Marriage and Family Therapist trained in Family System approach to therapy. When working with Couples, I utilize a marriage and/or premarital assessment. The Couples Assessment costs $35, total for both partners. It is outside your insurance. A Couple's Report will be generated through the "Prepare-Enrich" Couple Assessment. The Couples Report allows the couple and therapist to engage the couple in motivational interviewing, psycho-educational materials, and CBT/REBT approaches. It is mandatory we use " Prepare-Enrich" if you want to work with me as your therapist. For more information, Prepare-Enrich is on the web. My focus My ideal couple would be individuals with good insight who are having difficulty with Communication and Conflict Resolution. Couples with problems that require medication are referred to a Rula psychiatrist or PAC. My communication style I use a very laid-back approach, greeting the individual or the couple with "How are you?" I always greet the clients by the name they wish to use (which is often different from the client's registration ). I greet them by giving them my name and my credentials. I first ask the way each individual wishes to be addressed, where they are from, and what their biological family looked like (e.g., mother/father and siblings, and grandparents).
