Getting to know Jeffrey Newburg

The judgments come from all sides ? your family, peers, and the church. For such a long time, you've heard their toxic words: ?You're not good enough.? ?You're broken.? ?You're worthless.? And the worst part is, you've started to believe it yourself. The external chorus of criticism has become indistinguishable from the voice in your mind. You've carried the weight of these unfair judgments admirably ? constantly pushing forward and doing what you need to survive. But you can feel yourself slowly crumbling under the pressure. You can't go on like this. Yet your shame has become so familiar that you're unsure how to live without it. Don't give up ? life can be so much better. Using the powerful modalities of EMDR and Brainspotting, I can help you heal your trauma and dismantle self-critical shame. Together we'll work to restore your calm and self-compassion. Through our work, you'll experience ease in your body and tap into a newfound sense of joy and creativity. Stop letting the judgments of others determine your self-worth. Start treating yourself with the care, compassion, and forgiveness you deserve. Develop the confidence to create the relationships, career, and life you've always dreamed of. You don't have to do this alone. I hold a Master's in Psychology from California Southern University, which informs my compassionate and evidence-based approach to healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a practicing writer, actor, and artist, and that creativity informs my work with all clients. I have been a minister in the past. Although I am now outside of the church, this orientation toward human healing, forgiveness and growth remains crucial to the work I do as a therapist. I am honored to walk alongside others on their journey. Please feel free to reach out and we can talk so each of us can discern a fit. Even if I am not the right therapist for you, I would love to see you find the right next step in your journey. I want to always to do what I can to make therapy affordable. If cost is an issue, please reach out to discuss your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe it is the relationship that heals. Establishing trust is crucially important, and that can look quite different across humans. For some, talk therapy is the right treatment, and for others, a somatic, non-cognitive approach, like EMDR, is what's called for. Even within talk therapy, however, a focus on the experience of the body is key, as we hold our emotions in our bodies, and we cannot "think our way out" of emotional pain.

Strong communicator, good listener. Encouraged me to look at my feelings. Yes, I will go back for further sessions.
Jeff is a great listener and extremely patient. He guides the conversation in a great way and is a natural.
After several years with Jeffrey, I have overcome significant challenges and reconnect with my family.
Jeff was wonderfully empathetic and a great listener! Highly recommend.

I’ve been to a lot of therapist but Jeff is the perfect fit for me and my partner. He has made us feel very comfortable and we’ve learned many tools to help us work through our struggles and conflicts. I feel like we’re speaking to someone who truly cares.
My time spent doing EMDR sessions with Jeff has been more effective at targeting and helping me through several major traumas in my life over the course of a few months vs the decade I had spent in traditional talk therapy. The memories of what happened remain, but the emotional charge surrounding them is entirely gone. There’s a freedom I hadn’t experienced in my adult life up until this point. Jeff has such a kind, disarming demeanor that immediately put me at ease, and we were able to dive right into the work knowing that I was in a safe space with him to do so. I’m so grateful for my time spent in sessions with Jeff, and am still stunned at the practical effectiveness of EMDR.
After a long journey of struggling to find the right therapist, I was beyond relieved to begin meeting with Jeff. Throughout each session, I always feel as though I am adequately listened to but also guided in a way that feels beneficial and constructive, rather than feeling shut down. I have also been able to express deeply personal concerns and subject matters throughout sessions and never felt any sort of shame or judgment, and I have been encouraged to work through these feelings that have arisen internally.
I began to see Jeff around the beginning of the pandemic. It was a really difficult time in life and meeting with Jeff once a week was incredibly helpful. I am very grateful for the period of time we met and would highly recommend his therapy.
I have been with Jeff since 2018 or so (its now 2024), he has helped me process my life experiences, and made sense of the things that affect me emotionally. I can confidently say that Jeff has made a significant and positive impact on my life, and I am so grateful for him. On top of being a professional, he is kind and refreshing to talk to, there is no pressure to be anyone but yourself with him. If you are considering treatment, I highly recommend Jeffrey.
Jeffrey is wonderful! He is a great listener and has a great memory for things that have already been shared. He gives solid advice and great techniques for managing stress. I also appreciated that he reached out before my first appointment to get to know me so that our first session could be more productive. I will be going to him for my mental health needs for the foreseeable future!
