Life is full of transitions, which often lead to increased anxiety and depression with the increased uncertainty in our lives. This is your life - you deserve to put the focus back on you and to achieve and maintain the happiness and peace you deserve. My work with clients revolves around helping them regain and maintain their strength during times of change. I work in partnership with clients to help them move forward and explore and achieve what it is they want their next phase of life to look like. I believe strongly in educating my clients by sharing helpful and insightful articles and information. This may be the first time you have reached out for support and you don’t know what to expect or it may be a tool you have previously used. It takes strength and courage to be honest and true to yourself and your needs and I applaud you for taking this step. I encourage you to reach out to me so you can discuss will work best for you. I use CBT and DBT modalities primarily. I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe while in session. I use nonjudgmental listening and support my clients on the path that works for them. This is the client's journey, not mine, and therefore I work with them and offer support through active listening, education, and educational suggestions (books, articles). I also provide handouts and worksheets when appropriate to review in session to help client feel motivated and in power to reach their goals. Active listening is so very important in any situation, especially in a therapeutic alliance. I work with clients by reviewing what their needs are and the goals they have, and discussing how they can reach their goals. I will listen and ask for clarity as I do not want to assume what a client may be feeling. An example is a handout, "The Anger Iceberg" which I review and discuss with clients to help them understand what feelings lie below their "anger" so we can process together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I always knew I wanted to be a social worker, as helping was and is a large part of who I am. While in social work school, I worked with battered women and spent time with the LAPD investigating domestic violence calls and assisting women to the hospital when needed. Working with this population, I learned that women often feel they have no way out, so it was important to assist in giving them options and the strength to learn their worth. After graduating, I began working at the Independent Adoption Center in Los Angeles and eventually became the West Coast Regional Director. This role allowed me to work with women who were making the difficult decision to place a child for adoption and help them process grief and loss. I also worked with adoptive parents to understand the pain a birthparent is experiencing, as well as their own issues of loss if infertility had been an issue. I helped adoptive parents and birthmother make an adoption plan that would be most beneficial to all. This job afforded me the ability to help achieve beautiful families. Since that time, I have been seeing clients individually, addressing issues of transition, anxiety, and offering support in meeting my clients' goals. I also am a huge advocate for volunteering in my community. Volunteer in areas which I believe are important. These volunteer positions include: Local Schools, Los Robles Hospital, Starlight Foundation, Hospice of the Conejo, Our House Grief Support, and Libraries.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It is important for me to be realistic with my clients. If they suffer from anxiety, the goal is to reduce the anxiety by using tools (relaxation and focus techniques) as well as reality testing to help clients gain control over their anxiety and ways to reduce it so it is manageable. I will have previously spoken with you briefly (about 15 minutes) to discuss any questions or concerns that you may have. I will follow up with some documents to complete, including a questionnaire which will help share your goals and current situation. I will review my office policies as well as legalities. The rest of the session is your time. Again, this is your path, and you decide the direction and what role you want me to play.
