“For the past three years i have dealt with anxiety, depression, and PTSD alone not knowing the effects that it can take on your mental health, as well as your physical health. Keeping it to myself silently because of the stigma around mental health issues and how people perceive you. I thought i could handle the stresses of working from home for 2 years, isolating due to the pandemic, work stress, and a not so positive sexual encounter. I finally one day had enough when i looked in the mirror and didn't like who was staring back at me, and then i decided to get help with my thoughts, and feelings. Seeking mental health is not what is looks like on TV where where you magically go see a psychiatrist, 2 in my case who really did not want to hear my reasoning for seeking them out, they wanted to manage my medication that i was prescribed and left to fend my thoughts and feelings as i have for the past 3 years without any tangible help in my thoughts, feelings, etc. It wasn't until i found Joe that we started to actually talk about the events in my life that got me to this point. I do not think that i would be on the path to getting back to myself if i didn't have Joe to speak to twice a week. For me, having Joe be a dependable nonbiased person who i can trust to talk to, and who actually takes the time to get to know me and who i am as a person has meant the world to me. I am better off now for the time that i have spent, am spending, and will continue to spend with Joe until we both are at a point that our discussions aren't needed anymore. I look forward to that time.”

Getting to know Joseph LoCicero

Hi, my name is Joe, and I'm glad you are considering counseling. I believe I can help you. I have nearly 30 years of counseling experience working with the developmentally disabled, the elderly, and students in the school system. My specific treatment areas include depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, anger control problems, and impulse control disorders. My approach I use a cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused approach that centers on my clients' treatment goals. My therapeutic style is direct, warm, and affirming, providing a supportive environment for the therapeutic process. My focus I work with adults, children, teenagers, and the elderly who need mental health assessments and services, as well as behavioral analysis assessments and services. The care I provide is distinct, grounded in my extensive experience and knowledge gained over nearly 30 years. My communication style I communicate in a calm, direct, warm, and positive manner. I actively listen to my clients as they share what is happening in their lives and strive to help them. My journey to therapy My interest in therapy began with my first Psychology class in college, where I became fascinated by understanding human thinking, feeling, and behavior, both individually and in relationships. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (1986) and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling with a focus on Mental Health/Rehabilitation Counseling (1993) from the University of South Florida. I have been a licensed mental health counselor in Florida since 1997. For 12 years, I provided mental health services to children and teenagers with emotional and behavioral challenges in the school system. Since 2004, I have operated my own agency delivering mental health and behavioral analysis services for Florida’s developmental disability program. I also provide mental health services for the elderly.
