Juan Perez, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in helping people navigate anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, depression, and PTSD. My approach is direct but easygoing—creating a space that’s both supportive and safe. As an LGBTQ-identified therapist, I value authenticity and connection, and I’m here to help you navigate through your struggles and explore your past and present struggles which may continue to have an impact on you and your social emotional barriers. My approach to therapy is to begin by creating a safe, brave environment. I use an emotionally-focused framework to help clients identify and regulate both familiar and long-suppressed emotions. I use various approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered, solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), attachment-based, psychodynamic, and strength-based. We may be a notable fit for individuals who are interested in exploring their thought patterns and understanding the ways their early life experiences continue to impact how they view themselves and relate to the world. Our work is not focused on avoiding or wiping out "negative" emotions; our work will consist of understanding these feelings and making space for the full spectrum of emotional experience.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients and colleagues would often describe me and my communication style as friendly, open-minded, warm, and direct. I highly value trust and honesty, and my goal is to provide a safe, affirming environment to create a successful therapeutic experience. My journey into this work started with a deep interest in understanding how our early experiences shape who we become. I was drawn to becoming a therapist because I saw how often people carry emotional pain—from childhood or adult trauma, anxiety, depression, or difficult relationships—without the tools or support to truly process it. I’m passionate about helping people work through these barriers so they can reconnect with themselves, build healthier relationships, and feel more grounded in their lives. Supporting others in healing and growing into their most authentic selves is what drives me every day.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work from an emotionally-focused lens to support clients in recognizing and navigating both well-known and deeply buried emotions. In addition, I incorporate a social justice lens to our work, acknowledging how your lived experience is shaped by the world around you. In our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming space where you’re encouraged to show up just as you are. I take time to get to know you—your story, your concerns, and what brought you to therapy—at a pace that feels comfortable. I’m a compassionate, open-minded listener, and my priority is to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and understood. Together, we’ll start to explore what you’re hoping to work on and begin building a foundation of trust and connection for the work ahead.
