Getting to know Julia Villarreal

For my approach as a therapist, it is the highest importance for clients to feel seen, heard, understood, and respected. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client can determine therapy outcomes, so I greatly value the connection made between myself as a therapist and you as the client. I recognize vulnerability and reaching out for help isn’t easy, so my approach could be described as non-judgmental, curious, warm, empowering, empathetic, and client centered to facilitate a safe space. I know each person I meet with has their own unique characteristics, strengths, and struggles, which is why I will collaborate with you to create an individual treatment plan to meet your goals. I attended The University of Texas at San Antonio for my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and attended California State University, Chico for my Master's of Science in Psychology with the focus of Marriage and Family Therapy. I gained experience as a therapist at this time with traineeships at a substance abuse center as well as at a non-profit counseling center for members in the LGBTQ+ community. Since then, I have worked in community mental health, school counseling, and telehealth and have met with the following client populations: individual adults, couples, teenagers, elderly clients, clients struggling with substance abuse, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and have worked with clients from multiple different cultural backgrounds. I am always seeking to continue to learn new information in the psychology and mental health field and grow as a therapist by going to workshops, trainings, and keeping up to date on the recent research in the Psychology field. I am passionate about working in the mental health field and love to work in a collaborative way with clients. I would be honored to get to know you and explore the areas of life that inspire and challenge you, in order to support you towards living a more fulfilled and content life.
