Getting to know Karen Friese

I have been described as easy to talk to, warm, non-judgmental, and direct. People seem to enjoy sharing their stories with me, and I consider it an honor to be part of their journey. If you are looking for someone to talk to for healing, guidance, a different perspective, support, or recovery, I have the experience to do just that. I believe we all need a safe space to share our innermost feelings without worry, and I encourage self-awareness and self-care as central parts of the therapeutic process. I hold a Master's in Social Work from California State University, Chico, and have a diverse background working in various settings such as juvenile corrections, criminal justice, family foster care, and schools. I love working with adolescents, teens, and adults. Most recently, I have supported individuals impacted by wildfires. I also have a unique perspective as I am married to a retired first responder and have a passion for supporting first responders and their families. I use a trauma-informed approach, CBT, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and solution-focused techniques. I am client-centered and use tools to empower clients to find what works best in their circumstances. I am a follower of Jesus, and my beliefs inform my approach, but I only incorporate my faith in counseling if requested by the client.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe clients walk away from their first session with me having a better understanding of what to expect from therapy and what both mine and their role is. Over time, clients feel a connection that is built through the therapeutic relationship that allows the client to trust the process of finding what they are looking for in therapy.

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
