Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Katharine! Hello, my name is Katie Durnbaugh. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Board Certified Art Therapist. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate University. I work from a client-centered perspective and use creativity, empathy, and care to identify strengths and explore opportunities for personal growth. My approach I work eclectically, utilizing Person-Centered Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, as well as Mindfulness and Expressive Arts Therapies. My focus I have experience in Adult Day Care, Group Home, Residential/Intensive Outpatient (eating disorder), and Acute Psychiatric Hospital settings. I have provided teletherapy for the past year and typically work with folks navigating life transitions, exploring personal growth, incorporating creativity, and those experiencing low-level anxiety or depression. My communication style I create a gentle, warm, and caring environment. I meet clients where they’re at and help them feel safe. My hope is to support and empower my clients. My journey to therapy My journey began with expressive arts. In college, I was introduced to art therapy and found a new way to make sense of my inner world, which was profoundly healing. From then on, I knew I wanted to become a therapist and art therapist. I want to support others on their journey of self-exploration, self-expression, self-creation, and healing. My goals for you I believe goal-setting is collaborative—client and therapist work as a team to explore what the client wants from therapy. My first session with you Typically, a first session includes getting to know you, what’s bringing you to therapy, and what you hope to get out of it.
