Keith Kilburn, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
From depth psychology to practical problem-solving—I focus on the importance of stories, the stories that people tell themselves about themselves, and the stories that others have told about them, the traumatic stories that won’t go away, and how these stories can be changed. My approach Changing the story can change a person’s feelings and their behavior and reduce their level of suffering. Through talk therapy and mindfulness practice we untangle the complexes that life has dealt us. The overall goal of therapy is to make decisions and engage in behaviors unencumbered by the survival habits and emotional patterns of the past. My focus I work with teens to elders to clear the negative programming from the misfortunes of the past and seek to replace those patterns with ones that bring more joy and self-fulfillment. My communication style I listen without judgment to get clear about what’s troubling you. Then we explore possible alternatives to those aspects of life that are not working well for you. My journey to mental healthcare My own healing journey comprised psychotherapy, meditation, and Tai-Chi, all of which improved my life considerably. I decided I wanted to help others with the methods that had helped me. My goals for you There are the initial goals of therapy, such as the reduction of anxiety or depression. Then there are the goals that emerge, such as “What do I really want to do with my life?" and "How can I experience more joy?" My first session with you You tell me what brings you to therapy. I tell you what I have to offer. Are we comfortable with each other? Does it feel like there’s a basis for a good working relationship?
