Kelly Phelps, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
Hi there, I'm Kelly! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) in western NC, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master's in Counseling from Capella University and a Master of Education from Western Carolina University. I work with children, adolescents, and adults, specializing in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders using Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). My approach varies with each client depending on their needs and the evidence-based interventions best suited for them. These approaches allow me and the client to develop skills to address identified symptoms and reduce how those symptoms impact their life. I have found my style works best with children and adolescents dealing with trauma, anxiety, and depression. With adults, I focus on symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use. I help clients navigate their symptoms and reduce their overall impact, resulting in a more positive outlook. My communication style centers on creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe and secure. I meet each client where they are and engage in a calm, personal manner that fosters acceptance. I chose counseling because I wanted a career that allows me to give back to others. I've enjoyed learning skills and techniques that assist my clients in achieving their goals. My goal is to work collaboratively with clients to identify specific goals they want to achieve in therapy.
