Lauren Sims, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
Thanks for stopping by to read about me. I went to grad school and received great training as a therapist and am licensed. I also took time out to be a stay-at-home mom. I was also a single mom, finishing my graduate degree. While working for a large health plan, I obtained an MBA in healthcare administration, with honors. Throughout college to today, being true to myself and creating an authentic life has included working on my own personal growth, therapy, continued education, and finding great mentors. I also chose people who have more life experience than me. Navigating life successfully is all about learning what works, and I like learning from other successful people! My approach When looking for the right therapist, ask that question, "Have you been in therapy?" You want a therapist who knows themselves and their issues, so they can be fully present for your needs. Not all graduate programs require therapists to go through therapy, and the risk is that the therapist may unwittingly be working out their issues while working with you. Other questions to ask include: Understand their credentials and therapeutic approach, training, and background. What is their specialty? It is a privilege for me to help people improve their health and listen as they share their lives with me. It takes strength to ask for help and be willing to open up and share what one needs. I create safety and reassurance to support a judgment-free zone, offering reflection, care, and concern. Therapy is a "we" thing! I don't have the answers or tell you what to do. I may have lots of questions, though. We find the right answers for you, together. My primary background and training approaches are solution-focused, strengths-based, family systems, and motivational interviewing (readiness for change). I may use other approaches, including CBT interventions, which focus on changing thoughts that create negative behaviors and emotions.
