Are the painful emotions of trauma, grief, or LGBTQ+ minority stress disrupting your life? I help teens, adults, and couples reconnect with themselves and others after trauma, loss, and other big stressors. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, connected, and at peace. Through therapy, I provide tools to help you recognize your strengths, resolve past pain, and move forward with hope. I use a number of therapeutic tools to do this: EMDR therapy, Flash Technique (which is like EMDR but not exactly the same); clinical hypnosis, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and somatic techniques. I see you as a whole person, not just a brain without a body, a diagnosis, or a set of problems. Your emotional, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual dimensions all matter, and I help you tap into those resources to foster healing. If you're struggling with intense sadness, fear, or frustration, it could be because your stress bucket is full from previous traumatic stress or losses. So, along comes a new loss or trauma, and your stress is now spilling over. I help you learn how to cope with your emotions without suppressing them or surrendering to them -- finding the middle way to regain your joy, peace, and connection to the present.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I adapt my communication style to each individual client, but I strive to always use compassion in my words and actions, even when I'm being very direct. I respect your agency always, but encourage you to consider the consequences of impulsive and reactionary behaviors. Our work together is important to me, and our professional relationship reflects respect and dignity. My own traumatic past in a dysfunctional family fueled my desire to help others recover from trauma. I saw how intergenerational trauma landed on my doorstep, compelling me to break the cycle of emotional abuse and chemical dependency. When I lost significant loved ones at 18 and 24, I learned firsthand about grief and its profound effect on the psyche. These experiences have shaped me both personally and professionally. I have also spent a significant part of my life struggling with mobility and chronic illness. This has deepened my empathy for those who are dissociated from their bodies and who suffer from chronic pain and/or illnesses. I have been drawn to somatic therapy as a way to learn from the body what's going on internally. I also use hypnotherapy to help people live more comfortably in their bodies.?I believe we all have the capacity to heal from life’s most stressful situations because we possess inner strengths and resources that often lie beneath the surface. When we are grieving or reeling from trauma, we can forget how resilient we truly are. During our lowest moments—especially when facing mistreatment for something beyond our control, like sexual orientation, race, or gender identity—we need a safe, nonjudgmental space to reconnect with our inner strength. That’s what I provide for my clients: empowerment, connection, and compassion.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

From the first visit, we establish goals collaboratively. I encourage you to get very specific about what you want and how you'll know when you achieve it. Vague goals get vague results, and then you won't be satisfied or know that you're getting anything out of therapy. I ask you questions to help you visualize and actualize your goals with concrete actions and behaviors, and we revisit the goals periodically to measure progress. In the first session, I get to know more about you, including your symptoms that brought you to therapy, a little about your background, and what you want to get out of psychotherapy. I respect your right to privacy and go at your own pace. If you've suffered a painful loss or traumatic incident that is hard to discuss, I honor that and encourage you to check in periodically with how you feel emotionally and physically. The first session allows you to see how it feels to talk to me and evaluate whether you feel comfortable. I am open to feedback on what did and didn't work for you. If you decide you'd like to proceed, then we can make another appointment.
