Psychotherapist

Hi there, I'm Lois! My name is Lois DeLong, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Westbrook University, LPC licensure through Colorado DORA. I have been working in the field of Behavioral Health since before the integration of Mental Health and Addictions, approximately 45 years. I utilize many of the best practices from the BH field as well as traditional/natural teachings and personal recovery experiences in working with my clients. I am a 72-year-old woman of the Anishinaabe Nation (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa), on my recovery journey from trauma and addictions for the past 46 years. Thank you, Creator. My approach I consider myself to be "Informed Eclectic," basically utilizing theories and approaches that best meet the client's needs. Although I assist clients with addressing and resolving specific symptoms, I also encourage everyone to go deeper to the core of the problem area, toward holistic healing (body, mind, heart, and soul in balance). I know that all people are contextual and must be treated within all facets of their identity, fully understanding that many of us have lost identity, in part or completely, through our experiences. My focus I typically work best with adults, ages 18 and older, and sometimes with couples and families. My focus is on areas such as grief recovery, co-dependency, addictions, trauma (particularly complex trauma), and rebuilding/reclaiming identity. My communication style I assess where each individual is at present, matching the pace of movement as evenly as possible with their level of comfort and willingness. I try not to push, yet continue to challenge and encourage forward movement with any activity or approach being utilized. I do some personal sharing when I know clients will benefit from the information, often giving "permission" to own and share a secret that had been fueling fear, shame, guilt, and anger. My "Therapeutic Alliance" ratings have consistently been reported as 3/3 by 95% of my clients.
