Madison Brightwell, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Madison! My name is Dr. Madison Brightwell, LMFT, PsyD, and I earned my PsyD from California Southern University. I am a trauma specialist who also helps clients with addiction, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression. I am certified in EMDR and hypnotherapy. My approach I always treat every client as a unique and special individual who I can empower to find their own inner guidance and healing ability. I believe in working with clients where they are right now and enabling them to move forward in a more positive direction with their lives. My focus I have a very creative approach to my work and enjoy using expressive arts to help people discover a new self-identity. My unique experience as a performing artist helps me find creative ways to move people out of their negative patterns of behavior and transform their lives. I love helping people break the cycle of toxic relationship patterns. My communication style I am pretty informal and also directive. I don’t typically just “sit and listen,” but offer guidance, encouragement, feedback, suggestions, and often homework. I focus more on the How and the What rather than the Why—that is, what steps do you take to solve your challenges, and how do you get to where you want to be, rather than why this is happening? My journey to mental healthcare I spent 20 years as an actress and in the entertainment industry, which prepared me very well for my current role as a therapist. Acting requires the ability to completely empathize with and understand another human being, making it a great training ground. My goals for you It’s very important to help clients identify and start moving toward their goals. I make sure their goals are SMART—specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-limited. My first session with you I want to get to know you as much as possible, hear from you in your own words about your goals and challenges, and build a safe and trusting rapport with you.
