Martha Bethea, LPC

Psychotherapist
CO
My name is Martha, and I look forward to the chance to work with you! I am specialized in working with individuals across the life span and gender spectrum who are struggling with suicidal ideation. I feel incredibly lucky to have found a profession that allows me to use my skills in empathy, confrontation, and communication to help others. My approach No one spends more time with you than you do. I combine my educational background and clinical expertise with your own experience. I show up authentically in session so that positive relational experiences form the foundation of our work together. My first goal is to create a safe space for you to express your most uncomfortable emotions. My focus I focus on individuals struggling to cope with difficult emotions associated with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. We will identify the roots of your emotional disturbance and discover novel ways to safely express and make informed choices that lead to life satisfaction. My communication style I use warm assertive communication as well as humor to validate emotions while confronting unhelpful behaviors. I can be a goofy and energetic person as well as hold space for painfully sorrowful experiences. I am open and honest with my communication, modeling what I hope to foster in our work together. My journey to mental healthcare As a former suicidal teen, I have met with a myriad of different therapists. Some have been wonderful, and some have made me feel closed off and judged. I began my education focused on psychological research, but quickly realized that I preferred to be on the front lines, applying relevant research and warm understanding to help those in need.
