Getting to know Martha Gillen

Hi there, I'm Martha! My name is Martha Gillen. I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina. I hold a Master's in Addiction Counseling from East Carolina University. I work with both adolescents and adults, specializing in substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and stress. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients work toward achieving their goals. My approach My approach to therapy depends on what each client needs. My goal is to help them be successful. The approaches I use most often include Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, Motivational Counseling, Reality Therapy, and a Person-Centered approach. My focus I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for teens and adults who may be dealing with stress, substance use disorders, or both. I work with my clients to help them overcome life's obstacles. My communication style My communication style is personable, empathetic, and caring. I provide a safe space for clients to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. My journey to mental healthcare My passion for helping others has always been a driving force in my life. After completing my undergraduate studies, I began working and quickly realized the importance of providing individuals with access to therapy. This motivated me to return to graduate school to become a licensed therapist. Therapy enables individuals to work on personal growth, enhance coping mechanisms, and achieve their objectives. What motivates me most are the positive transformations I witness in my clients, their families, and the wider community. My goals for you My method of setting goals with clients revolves around collaboration to identify your objectives during our sessions. Initially, this involves establishing trust and understanding the therapeutic process. As we progress, we will jointly establish goals and monitor your progress.
