Martin Bordson, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello, my name is Martin Bordson, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 38 years of experience in the field (24 licensed), based in San Diego, California. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from National University. I take only 6 to 10 clients at a time so I can do my best work while also enjoying my hobbies like traveling, learning languages, sailing, playing music, and hiking. I immigrated from Mexico after high school, so I'm fully bilingual (Spanish) and bi-cultural. I have also traveled the world and speak other languages like Italian and French. I truly enjoy the rewards of my profession-seeing others become happier and improve their lives is wonderful and fulfilling. My approach is practical, solution-oriented, and skill-based. My approach My therapeutic approach is eclectic, meaning I use the techniques that best fit your particular situation. Over the years, I have been trained in many approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, Solution-Oriented, Motivational Interviewing, TFT, DBT, and Virginia Satir's Model. My focus I like to work with clients who are motivated to make positive changes and want a happier, more self-fulfilling life. This includes young adults exploring their future or life choices, those facing challenges or changes in relationships, parenting concerns, self-esteem issues, overcoming mild trauma, anxiety, grief, and mild adjustment depression. I am also interested in assisting individuals transitioning into retirement and finding purpose and joy in the later years of their lives. My communication style My style is caring, easygoing, non-judgmental, and respectful. I use mild humor at times to lighten the situation. Mostly, I strive to be fully present and listen actively. I paraphrase to ensure I'm truly understanding the situation and ask questions to help clients gain insight. I try not to interrupt unless necessary to clarify a point or better understand a concept.
