I also find that teaching clients to better understand their situation helps keep them motivated to work toward their goals. My journey to mental healthcare I became interested in mental health at a young age, largely through volunteer work that was always part of my family life. This led to experiences in many settings, including the Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center, Behavioral Medicine Units, the University of California college counseling center, and years of private practice.
