Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, I'm Megan Mathewson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's in Counseling from California State University, Los Angeles. I believe that people have an innate capacity to heal and make desired changes in their lives, but the work of personal and relational growth can be difficult and doesn't have to be done alone. I offer a safe and supportive space where we can work together to create what you want to see in your life. My approach is collaborative, authentic, and rooted in compassion. I use a blend of evidence-based approaches, including CBT, DBT, and EMDR, to address depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, and trauma. I provide practical skills with mindfulness woven throughout to help people develop increased self-awareness, endure and modulate unpleasant emotions, and foster nourishing relationships with others. I have worked with children, adolescents, parents, adults, and families for over 10 years. My experience includes supporting people facing depression, anxiety, stress, trauma and other adverse experiences, parenting, and relational challenges. I especially enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, adults, parents, and those who identify as LGBTQ+. I maintain a lens of social justice in my work and am passionate about decolonizing psychotherapy. My hope is that those I work with feel deeply seen, heard, and understood. I strive to create an environment where people feel compassionately held in their experiences while having a sensitive guide aligned with them to do the deep work of healing and change. It takes courage and vulnerability to participate in therapy, and I hold those who share with me-and what is shared-in sacred regard. My journey to mental healthcare began with my own experience in therapy as a young adult. It was a crucial and life-changing experience for me as a fellow traveler and human trying to heal and alchemize the experiences that brought me to seeking therapy.
