Getting to know Monica Alvarez

I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) licensed psychotherapist in Illinois and California. I have experience helping clients with stress, anxiety, trauma, narcissistic abuse, post-partum depression, domestic violence, immigration issues, suicidal thoughts, teenage self-harm, coping with grief and loss, and parenting issues. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming your challenges. Monica Alvarez is certified as a narcissistic abuse clinician with Dr. Ramani Durvasula. She is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a highly effective treatment for trauma and PTSD. EMDR helps the brain process and release traumatic memories, allowing clients to heal in a deeper and more lasting way. To deliver a holistic and individualized approach to healing, we often combine EMDR with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based techniques.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in individuals who have experienced trauma, especially those recovering from emotionally or psychologically abusive/narcissistic relationships. We also have extensive experience working with teenage girls who have gone through trauma and may be struggling with self-harm, as well as women dealing with fertility struggles, miscarriage, infertility, motherhood, relationships, and identity concerns.

Combining my personal journey with evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and spirituality, I strive to truly connect with each client, seeing life through their perspective.
