Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Monique! Starting with a new therapist can be nerve-wracking. Whether you've been in therapy before or this is your first time trying it out, meeting a new clinician can take a lot out of you. My goal when meeting with a new prospective client is to help you figure out if I'm the right therapist for you. In my experience, a big part of improving mental health is advocating for yourself, and I hope that I will enable you to exercise that advocacy with me. My approach I find that I like to work with the Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) model. It provides such useful tools to make sense of our experiences and our responses to events in our lives. I believe that understanding our early life experiences with our caregivers, as well as any traumas, helps make sense of how we view ourselves and the world, but CBT gives us the path forward to better functioning and a more fulfilling life. My focus I love to work with parents and their teens/kids. Equipping kids' grown-ups is my favorite thing to do. Whatever stressors your family is facing, I can help you get yourself oriented in the right direction and focused on what matters with tools that will help you outside of the therapy office. Making sense of challenging behaviors is rewarding and empowering for parents and healing for families. I also work with a lot of individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and couples dealing with their childhood traumas. I work with almost all ages (ages 4-88 so far) and stages of life. My communication style In initial sessions, I focus on getting to understand your way of communicating and figuring out how we can best understand each other. I put significant effort into understanding how you experience your own life and emotions. I find that I frequently use the phrases, "Can you tell me more about that?" and reflecting statements to you for further reflection and clarification.
