Psychotherapist

During highly stressful times, we often develop tunnel vision, making it more difficult for us to recognize when and how our core values influence our options. As a counselor, I view myself as someone who can support you in seeing the big picture and recognizing and making choices that align with your goals and aspirations. I will also teach you skills for establishing and maintaining mental health and healthy relationships, grounded in your core beliefs and the latest research on how we function on a neurobiological level. My approach My approach is to listen intently to your thoughts, feelings, fears, and loves, and support you in achieving your therapy goals. That being said, I'm not the type of therapist who will always agree with you and meekly repeat, "Say more about that." I'll respectfully use thoughtful questions, candor, and dry humor to challenge your thinking and behavior in ways that support your therapy goals. My focus My focus is on adults who have checked all or many of the boxes of the things that are supposed to make us fulfilled and happy, yet still feel a longing. Clients who are facing many challenges on multiple fronts and don't know where to turn or how even to start to address all that's going on with them. I will tailor my understanding of various evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support clients in exploring and defining what they want and need in their lives, and provide individualized education and skills that will help my clients recognize and achieve their therapy goals. My communication style My approach is calm, reassuring, confident, caring, honest, kind, and respectful. My journey to mental healthcare This is my second career. I was a journalist in New York when 9/11 happened. I was able to see firsthand how trauma can rattle an entire community of people at once. I had always been interested in therapy, but it was that incident that motivated me to pursue it.
