As a compassionate and experienced therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space to help you work through depression, anxiety, family conflicts, and relationship issues. I use a humanistic, strength-based, and collaborative approach to therapy. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy to help you recognize thoughts that trigger feelings and behaviors that keep specific problems from being resolved. The focus of therapy is changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to improve emotional well-being. During our initial session, we will discuss how to best help you resolve the issues that bring you to therapy and create a plan together that will help to alleviate your concerns. Throughout the therapy process, I will provide you with coping tools and strategies that will help you navigate through stressful and challenging situations. In our work together, my primary focus is on your progress and well-being. In therapy, I will provide you with a safe, respectful, and supportive space conducive to emotional healing and progress. Are you feeling sad, anxious, lonely, angry, and with thoughts that keep running through your mind that you find difficult to control? Are you keeping your feelings in for fear of what others might think and how they might perceive you? Are you having communication problems in your relationship, difficulty forming relationships, or finding the right relationship for you? In therapy, I will teach you new coping skills, help you change painful thoughts, and increase feelings of hopefulness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My communication style in therapy is to be genuine, clear, respectful, kind, and honest. I use active listening, reflection, and open-ended questions to help you explore thoughts and feelings and work on finding solutions to your concerns, within a safe and supportive environment. My journey began as a past educator at the secondary level. Although I was not a counselor at the time, I had the opportunity to observe, listen, interact, and talk with students who were struggling with difficult problems that affected their academic, social, and family life. I had a desire to do more for them and for others who were struggling through difficult life situations. It was at that point that I was inspired to obtain professional training to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to help and support others going through difficult life struggles. As a therapist, I find it very rewarding to see clients strengthen coping skills and make positive strides, increase emotional well-being, and find the right path for them in resolving their life situation to move forward in life with confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that therapy is a collaboration. Together, we will discuss and identify goals that matter to you, whether the focus is on building/improving/maintaining relationships, or on improving communication, self-esteem, increasing self-awareness, regulating emotions, or another personal objective. As we move forward in therapy, we will periodically review the goals and plan for progress and make modifications whenever needed. I am here to support your progress and ensure that the goals capture your uniqueness and are relevant and meaningful to you. The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other. It is normal to feel anxious; however, be assured that I will be empathic, caring, and supportive as we talk about the concerns that bring you to therapy and discuss how you would like to see the problem resolved. Therapy is a step-by-step process, and I will be there to guide and support you every step of the way.
